Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds. That is the unofficial slogan of the Postal Service, but this weekend, it will change to 'neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from gathering food to help feed the hungry.'

You've probably gotten a paper grocery bag in your mailbox asking you to fill it with non-perishable food items. This weekend is the weekend that those grocery bags will be picked up by postal workers all over El Paso. It's all part of the Stamp Out Hunger food drive which is led by the National Association of Letter Carriers.

The food items collected will be distributed to local food banks, pantries, and shelters. All you need to do is put non-perishable food items like canned goods and boxed pastas into the grocery bag and leave them by your mailbox by 9 a.m. this Saturday, May 13. Donations will benefit the El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank.

According to the United Way El Paso website, the national food drive got its start in El Paso. It is now the largest single-day food drive. That's an amazing accomplishment.

Please do what you can to help. There is nothing more devastating that going hungry, and if everyone pitches in a little, we can help make sure that no one ever does.
