Three specialty dogs have been flown into El Paso from San Antonio, TX to help comfort first responders who were on the frontlines of the shootings that took place on August 3, 2019.

First responders, paramedics, EMT’s along with hospital staff are being offered a chance to spend time with the three specialty dogs to provide comfort after the traumatic events that occurred over the weekend.

The benefits of therapy or emotional support pets are many including:

  • Lowering feelings of depression
  • Encourages communication
  • Provide comfort and alleviates emotional stress
  • Reduces anxiety

The facility dogs were trained by Service Dogs Inc., and are considered facility dogs because they are part of a facility, in this case on loan from the Methodist Healthcare System in San Antonio, TX. The non-profit organization trains these dogs to help Texans quality of life across the state free-of-charge.

The dogs named Lady, Ruby, and Chanel will spending the week in El Paso before returning back home on Friday, August 9, 2019.
