The coronavirus outbreak not only closed down businesses, it caused the closure of the nation's school districts. As students were trying to figure out how to do distance learning from home, a lot of high school seniors were mourning the cancellation of their high school graduations. There is some good news about that today. The Socorro Independent School District has announced that they will hold graduation ceremonies at the Don Haskins Center for the 2019-2020 graduating senior class in their district's high schools.

SISD's superintendent Jose Espinoza said that district officials say "the current situation has been especially hard on our senior.” Espinoza said that SISD is working to ensure that the Class of 2020 gets the magical moment of receiving their high school diploma this year.

There were no details given on how many people will be allowed in the Haskins Center for the graduation ceremonies or if social distancing and face coverings would be required. SISD said that they want to assure "seniors and their families that the district will do everything in its power to find a way to recognize and celebrate our graduates."
