Meet the 71-Year-Old Woman Making History in Miss Texas USA
El Paso is making history and it’s all thanks to one El Paso woman, Marissa Teijo!
That name is trending online and it’s all for a good reason. At 71, Marissa made history over the weekend by becoming the oldest contestant to compete for the Miss Texas USA title.
Marissa made her way to Houston to face nearly 100 competitors at the Houston pageant, marking a significant moment in the event's history.
Marissa grew up on a farm in El Paso and discovered a passion for fitness early in life. Over the years, she has participated in numerous fitness competitions, consistently challenging herself and breaking barriers.
Her journey to the Miss Texas USA pageant began about a month ago when she announced her participation on Instagram, sharing her motivations and aspirations.
Marissa’s post read:
“I am delighted to be a part of this incredible new experience as a contestant in the Miss Texas USA pageant. In doing so, I hope to inspire women to strive to be their best physical and mental self and believe there is beauty at any age.”
Marissa’s participation comes in the wake of recent rule changes by the Miss Universe organization, which now embraces greater inclusivity.
According to online reports, the organization has removed age limits and now allows married, divorced, and pregnant women to compete. These changes aim to reflect a more modern and inclusive perspective on beauty and capability.
Marisa didn’t take the crown, this time around, but her story has since gone viral and it’s great to see such an inspiring and motivating story from El Paso being shared all over the internet!
I hope that women of all ages are able to read Marissa’s story and realize that you are never too young or too old to go for what you want in life!
Thank you, Marissa, for that reminder! Mija, yes you can and YES YOU DID!
