There’s A ‘New Wave’ Of Famous El Pasoans in 2022
An El Paso-born actress is set to appear in the newest season of Netflix hit YA show Winx: Saga.
She's part of a growing list of El Pasoans "Making It" in the entertainment industry.
For a long time if you asked somebody if they could name anyone famous from El Paso they would usually respond with, "What's an El Paso?"
But in 2022, between R&B super-star Khalid, Green Bay Packer Aaron Jones, and a migrant crisis, people are starting to KNOW El Paso.
Today's wave of, talented, well-known El Pasoans includes self-made rap artists,
and professional actors.
In a new interview with Texas Public Radio Paulina Chavez, a native El Pasoan who is set to costar in a hit Netflix YA television show, talks about her new role, what it's like being an actor of color in the entertainment industry, and what it's like to come home and visit family.
“You need to see yourself on TV and film in positive roles,” Chávez said. “And so doing something like Ashley Garcia and now doing something like Flora, I’m playing powerhouses of Latinas. They’re just so great. And I always feel like Flora is a chingona, and I’m learning to be a chingona comó María Félix."
According to her interview, Paulina still makes it home to El Paso every once in a while:
"As her career reaches new heights, Chávez continues to retain strong roots in Texas, making frequent trips to her hometown of El Paso to visit family, as well as Ciudad Juárez across the border."
