In a new interview with Texas Public Radio Paulina Chavez, a native El Pasoan who is set to costar in a hit Netflix YA television show, talks about her new role, what it's like being an actor of color in the entertainment industry, and what it's like to come home and visit family.

“You need to see yourself on TV and film in positive roles,” Chávez said. “And so doing something like Ashley Garcia and now doing something like Flora, I’m playing powerhouses of Latinas. They’re just so great. And I always feel like Flora is a chingona, and I’m learning to be a chingona comó María Félix."

According to her interview, Paulina still makes it home to El Paso every once in a while:
