After spending the first half of the season at the Chamizal, the summer music series Music Under the Stars returns to Cohen Stadium in time to celebrate our nation’s independence.

The 4th of July concert will be the first of four that will be held at the soon-to-be-demolished baseball stadium this July. As previously reported on, the annual fireworks spectacular will not be held at the Chamizal National Memorial this year at the request of the United States Department of the Interior, which oversees the Chamizal, because of federal budget concerns.

Former Las Cruces police officer turned Country music singer Frank Gomez, who goes by the stage name Frank Ray, will headline the 4th of July show at Cohen.

Ray left the force in August of 2017 after 10 years patrolling the mean streets of Cruces to pursue his music career full-time. Since then he’s recorded an EP of original music and has been touring the U.S. promoting it. This past December he was the halftime performer for the 2017 Hyundai Sun Bowl.
