You gotta dig a kid who came to El Paso with a military family, made the city his own, and then goes on to blow up the charts and the music industry with his first album. You gotta love him even more when he gets up on music's biggest stage and the first words out of his mouth are to praise and thank El Paso for playing a role in his phenomenal success.

Khalid came to El Paso just a couple of years ago and graduated from Americas High School. He recorded his first album and began tearing up the charts with his first song, Location. He was everywhere - the Tonight Show, Good Morning America, The Ellen Show - this guy made the music business sit up and take notice, and he took us all along for the ride. He never failed to mention El Paso as his hometown whenever he was interviewed, he used the city as the backdrop for his Location video, the guy really loves our town.

Sunday night at the MTV VMA's, his career took another huge step forward when he won 'Best New Artist'. He won out over Julia Michaels, Kodak Black, Noah Cyrus, SZA and Young M.A., and of course, thanked El Paso for standing behind him. He said the award wasn't just for him, but for the city.

This guy is amazing. You cannot say enough about his talent and his attachment to El Paso. Congratulations to Khalid and we can't wait to see what is next for this amazing performer!
