Have El Paso’s The Mars Volta been collaborating with Kanye West?

Kanye West took to Twitter to reveal that he’s been collaborating musically with El Paso’s The Mars Volta.

Soon after West’s recent presidential rally in South Carolina, he's been going on social media rants that have left many of his loved ones worried over his mental health. Kanye even went on a tweet rant talking about wanting to divorce his wife Kim Kardashian.

In between his very public rants and breakdowns, Kanye took to Twitter claiming that he’d been working with the El Paso bred band The Mars Volta.

Amongst various other bizarre tweets, West claims he has an unfinished album with The Mars Volta. The prog-rock band which split up in 2013 features El Paso born, Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodrigo Lopez. The Mars Volta band was formed following the break-up of Cedric Bixler-Zavala's previous band, At the Drive-In.

In the tweet, Kanye adds a clip of a sports documentary which includes The Mars Volta’s song “The Widow.” He then shares that he has collaborated on an album with the band tweeting, “The Mars Volta we need to finish the album”.

The Mars Volta has not confirmed if they’ve been working with Kanye West but it’s possible if at some point they were collaborating on new material before the band’s split.

Six years later in 2019, in a series of now-deleted tweets, The Mars Volta confirmed a reunion revealing they were working on new music but haven’t shared anything as of yet.

At this point, it’s any one’s guess if these polarizing artists have collaborated but if they have, I’m down to take a listen.
