You can add the International Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque to the list of events that have been postponed or cancelled due to COVID-19.  Initially, the event was scheduled to begin on October 3.

Many El Pasoans make the approximately four-hour trek North on I-25 each October to take in one of the most beautiful sights in the Southwest. Last year’s event had over 600 hot air balloon pilots sign up and seeing colors and balloon shapes of all types and sizes lift off is truly breathtaking.

Thankfully, a little bit of patience will end up being rewarded as the official International Balloon Fiesta website currently lists reschedule dates as October 2-10, 2021. For those that have already made RV reservations and/or bought tickets for the 2020 Balloon Fiesta, event organizers have announced that they will be honored in October of 2021.

The 2020 fiesta would have been the 49th balloon celebration and this will mark the first time since 1972 that the International Balloon Fiesta will not go on as planned.  As a result, the big 50th anniversary celebration planned for 2021 will be pushed back a year.
