Why check out decked out homes from a car when you can see them from a boat?

One of our area’s most unique holiday light shows takes place a mere 3 hours away in Carlsbad, New Mexico. It’s called Christmas on the Pecos, where the Christmas obsessed can hop on a boat for an enchanting evening of twinkling splendor in the Land of Enchantment.

More than 100 homeowners along the Pecos River decorate their homes, backyards, and docks for the holiday light show, arguably the grandest in New Mexico.

It’s kind of like the slow drive through Eastridge, but instead of a cruising in your car you’re gliding on a boat along a watery wonderland of breathtaking estates adorned in festive multi-colored lights and one of a kind Holiday light displays.

If a boat ride and decorated homes aren’t enough to sell you on this event, the shimmering effect created by the light’s reflections in the river should do it. I mean, check out how magical it looks:

What To Know If You Plan to Ho, Ho, Go

Boat tours are 40 minutes long and sail 6 times nightly beginning at 6 p.m. between November 25 and December 31. Reservations, which are required, can be made at www.christmasonthepecos.com/buy-tickets
