UPDATE 3/16: All El Paso County school districts will now re-open April 6.

UPDATE 3/13: Socorro ISD has made a "proactive change" to the school calendar. Students will now return April 6.

UPDATE 3/13: Ysleta ISD has extended the number of days it will remain closed "due to heightened concerns." Students will now return March 30.

Two of the three largest school districts in El Paso are taking a wait and see approach regarding the coronavirus outbreak and extended spring break closures.

The Ysleta Independent School District and Socorro Independent School District plan to stick to their original schedules for now. Only the El Paso Independent School District is extending student's time off as of this writing.

YISD Superintendent Xavier De la Torre posted a statement saying the district is moving forward with spring break as planned from March 16-20. “YISD will continue to evaluate the situation and will announce any changes to the schedule no later than March 20,” the message read.

SISD, meanwhile, posted a "Coronavirus Update" Thursday that said, in part, "any updates impacting students, faculty and staff" would be posted on its website. SISD students are still currently expected to return to class March 23.

EPISD announced Thursday (3/12) it will give students an extra week of spring break amid coronavirus concerns. The move means classes at EPISD will resume Monday, March 30.

Because the situation is so fluid and changes almost daily, parents and students should continue to monitor all communication from the school district they are in.

It should be noted there are currently no confirmed COVID-19 cases in the city of El Paso or El Paso County.
