Happy Birthday, Ralph Fiennes

Our Birthday Boy today is Ralph Fiennes who starred in one of my favorite movies, that I happened to catch last night on HBO, "The English Patient".  He plays a map maker in the days leading up to WWII.  He falls in love with a colleague's wife with disastrous results.

In this scene, his lover's husband has found out about their affair and crashed a plane with them in it.  Ralph has to go for help but has to leave her in a cave so she won't roast in the desert sun.  She tell him she's always loved him when he thought she didn't.  If you know the movie, you'll know the heartbreak of this scene.  If you haven't seen the movie, you should.  It's gorgeous and terrible and sad and ridiculously funny all at the same time.  Happy Birthday, Ralph Fiennes!
