4 F’s for a Fun and Sober St Patrick’s Day in the Lone Star State
St. Paddy's Day is a popular holiday in the Southwest, from Arizona to Texas, that goes hand in glove with drinking and partying, which can be a challenge for people who are trying to keep sober and stay "on the wagon."
According to Brookdale Recovery Center though, there are a number of other ways to celebrate the holiday that can be culturally meaningful but still not involve Irish "spirits."
IRISH FUN
One alternative is to attend a parade, which is an excellent way to get into the festive spirit and enjoy entertainment suitable for all ages.
IRISH FITNESS
Another option is to learn an Irish dance or participate in a 5K race, which can add an element of physical activity and excitement to the day.
IRISH FOOD
Cooking a traditional Irish meal and listening to Irish music can bring people together and celebrate the culture of the holiday.
Also, a lot of restaurants often offer unique Irish-themed menu items, AND it's possible to create holiday-themed treats at home as well.
IRISH FAMILY
Spending time with sober friends and family is crucial in ensuring a fun, enjoyable, and most importantly alcohol-free holiday celebration.
By surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals who share similar values, you can enjoy the festivities without the pressure to drink or engage in activities that do not align with personal beliefs.
Reframe the holiday in your mind so that the whole day is not solely about booze and getting your swerve on.
Think of it, instead, as a moment in life to celebrate the Irish heritage, culture, and your ginger friends.
While St Patty's Day is the beer and whiskey rager it's always been, there really are ways to celebrate the holiday without indulging in alcohol.
