Fort Bliss Announces New Security Measures After This Week’s Shooting At William Beaumont Army Medical Center

Fort Bliss is one of the biggest military installations in the world, and for years, it was pretty easy to get on post. That is changing, in part, because of the tragic shooting incident that happened earlier this week.

If you have to go to the William Beaumont Army Medical Center or the VA Health Care Clinic, these are the changes you need t know about:

1. The Alabama and Fred Wilson access gates will remain open for entry to the medical treatment facilities. Fred Wilson remains an "all-access" gate for Department of Defense identification card holders, VA staff employees and civilians.

2. The Alabama gate is now "limited-access" for DoD ID card holders and VA staff employees only.

3. All vehicles and occupants trying to get on post are subject to random searches and inspections.

These changes might add to the time it takes to get on post, so be aware of that and give yourself plenty of time to go through security.
