Forbes ‘Richest In the World’ List Includes El Pasoan
Did you know a billionaire lives right here in El Paso?
You've probably heard of him. And if you haven't then you've probably shopped or dined in one of his establishments, spent the night or partied at his downtown hotel, used his parking garage, or cheered on the local minor league baseball team he owns a stake in on a hot El Paso summer night.
He is Paul Foster, and he's not just the wealthiest and most influential person in our city, he’s one of the richest people on the entire planet.
Forbes estimates his current net worth at $1.7 billion, which makes him the 1,833rd richest billionaire. That’s down 320 spots from where he ranked in 2020 when he was number 1,513 on the magazine’s The Richest People in the World list. Interestingly, he was worth less (1.4 billion) when he placed higher on the list.
Foster, who was raised in Lovington, New Mexico, but calls El Paso home, is a partner in Mountain Star Sports Group, which owns the El Paso Chihuahuas and the El Paso Locomotive FC. He's also a partner in numerous real estate ventures around town, including The Fountains at Farah.
It's pretty cool that he chooses to live here. Even cooler that he's invested so much of his personal fortune in his adopted hometown and donates to a lot of charities, including a $50 million donation to create the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso.
Foster first made the Forbes billionaires list in 2008 when his net worth reached $1 billion. His net worth has remained pretty steady since then.
