Lost in all the COVID-19 coverage is the fact that the United States is conducting a census. Today is Census Day because where you live on April 1st is where the census will record you living and that will determine how El Paso gets future funding for resources in our community.

The population count as reported in the census get us funding for things like digital learning (which we’ve learned is so important in times like these), help for the food bank (again a very important resource right now), and getting supplies to our hospitals (hey, I’m sensing a pattern here.)

You can take the census by mail, phone, or online and you don’t even have to leave your house to do it. Go to My2020Census.gov to participate online, or you can mail in the Census questionaire that you got in the mail at your house. You can also call (844) 330-2020 to participate in English, or call (844) 468-2020 for Spanish.

The other reason you should fill out the census is so your kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids can know where you lived in your life and where you worked. It also gives future generations details about the number of people in your family. Think about all those shows about genealogy. People who do family histories rely very heavily on census information because they can use the address where your ancestors lived to search local records for further information about your family tree.

Fill out the Census. It's easy and it will not only get us more money for essential services, it will give your future generations of family members details about your life.
