Famous Musicians Who Love The Mars Volta From El Paso
The most famous band to ever come out of El Paso, without a doubt, is The Mars Volta. For 20 years they have been THE band to represent us in the music world, and during their careers, they've gotten the respect of their fellow peers.
Some huge musicians to ever show their support include:
James Hetfield:
I don't think James needs an introduction, the Metallica lead singer/guitarist is one of the BIGGEST names in the metal world. James, and the entire band, have been quite vocal about their love for The Mars Volta.
In an interview with Ultimate Guitar, James was quoted saying "What I love about them is - they pretty much push the limits on everything".
There's even a video of James, Fergie & Muse's Matthew Bellamy all hanging out back in 2005.
Neil Peart:
The all time GREATEST drummer of all time, Rush's Neil Peart gave The Mars Volta some high praise in his days. On the Rush is a Band blog site, it was revealed that his love started with the 2005 Frances The Mute album, calling it a "brave, adventurous, highly musical piece of work".
He's even given them praise in his book: Traveling Music: The Soundtrack of my Life and Time.
As a huge Rush & Mars Volta fan, that just makes me appreciate Neil even more.
Tool:
Which members? Well... all of em! In a 2020 Louder Sound interview, when doing an in depth look at the 10,000 Days album, all of the members listed some some of the bands that are keeping progressive rock alive; one of them being The Mars Volta. All saying they are huge fans.
They even gave praise for At The Drive-In too, saying they "were setting up for the next thing".
Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree):
Another big name in the progressive rock world is Steven Wilson from Porcupine Tree. He's been known to give a ton of praise for bands like Radiohead, Muse & The Mars Volta like in a past interview with Noise Full.
Mike Portnoy:
The famed drummer that has worked with many incredible bands like Dream Theater, Avenged Sevenfold & The Winery Dogs has stated to Hudson Music that The Mars Volta is a band he has a high amount of respect for.
Kayne West:
Possibly the biggest surprise came from 2020 when Kayne West tweeted "The Mars Volta we need to finish the album" much to the surprise of his fans & Mars Volta fans alike. The tweets were sadly removed, but thanks to Reddit, there do exist screenshots.
Cedric did say they haven't worked with Kayne in the past, but said "it was a nice pat on the back from the Universe".
It's unclear if there will ever be a collab in the future but, we did get "that album" finally with the latest Mars Volta album dropping last year.
Flea & John Frusciante:
Probably the most well known musicians to have a huge sign of respect for the Mars Volta are Flea & John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Not only have they appeared on songs for The Mars Volta, but the inverse has happened.
Omar has appeared on Red Hot Chili Pepper's Especially in Michigan & countless solo albums for John.
Flea would also form a band with Omar & Cedric called Antemasque.
One more thing worth noting, Rolling Stones Magazine gave The Mars Volta very high praise, calling them the Best Prog-Band in 2008.
Keep making El Paso proud Mars Volta & we look forward to seeing you back in El Paso May 14th! You can see more interesting Mars Volta facts here.
