You Won’t Believe What Could Finally Be Coming Back to El Paso, Texas
Did you know that El Paso, Texas once had an Aerial Tramway?! Mind blowing, I know!
I was born and raised in El Paso and I never got the chance to ride the Tramway before it shut down back in 2018 due to safety issues. Hopefully soon I will get to take that ride because it could be making a comeback!
El Paso’s Wyler Aerial Tramway might finally be making its long-awaited return
According to KTSM, State Sen. César J. Blanco announced that an additional $7 million has been secured in the state budget for the tramway’s revival. That brings the total state investment to a jaw-dropping $27 million.
The funding is part of Article VI of the state budget via the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and it’s kind of a big deal. If you’ve been missing those scenic mountain views and dreamy desert sunsets since the tramway shut down in 2018, you're not alone.
Blanco added that he’s been hustling since 2019 with the state delegation to make this happen and now, we’re one step closer to cutting that ribbon on a revamped tramway fit for future generations.
“When the tramway shut down, our community lost a local gem,” Blanco said in a statement. And let’s be real, he’s right. Apparently It was a big deal for many locals and tourists when it came to weekend adventures, first dates, and out-of-town fun.
No word yet on the exact reopening date — but when it drops, you know we’ll be first in line. (Even though heights give me major anxiety… yolo)
