As far as prognosticating pachyderms go, Savannah the elephant is the GOAT.

The El Paso Zoo’s largest resident emerged from her home the Friday before the Big Game to find two helmet-shaped piñatas filled with treats set out for her; one with the Kansas City Chiefs logo on it, the other the Philadelphia Eagles.

Her mission, which she chose to accept, was to tear into one of the two thus predicting the victor.

After strutting right up the Philadelphia piñata and knocking it down, she then turned her attention to the Kansas City piñata knocking that one over before pausing as if second-guessing herself before thrashing it, predicting a Chiefs Super Bowl victory.

If you think about it, her actions kind of mimicked the game itself. The Eagles jumped out to an early lead, the Chiefs answered, but then it looked like Philly was going to be too much for KC before the Chiefs thrashed the Eagles in the second half.

Savannah has predicted a Kansas City victory in each of their three most recent appearances. She didn’t fare well in 2021 choosing KC instead of the eventual winner, Tampa Bay, but her pick was right on the money in 2020. KC defeated San Francisco 31-20.

Last year, Savannah correctly predicted that the Los Angeles Rams would beat the Cincinnati Bengals, and has now picked the eventual Big Game winner 9 of the last 13 years. Yaas, Queen!

If only I could take her with me to a Vegas sports book.
