El Paso Mayor Attempting to Lower Speed Limit in I-10 Construction Zones
Construction on I-10 has caused some headaches to say the least and now the Mayor is attempting to mitigate some of the hazards caused by the roadwork.
KVIA has reported that Mayor Leeser has placed an agenda item for the July 12th City Council meeting during which he will ask permission to pen a letter to TxDOT and the Texas Transportation Commission asking that Interstate 10 speeds be lowered during construction periods.
The agenda item cites the high number of accidents (359 accidents on I-10 between Redd Road and Porfirio Diaz since April of 2015) as the reason for this request. The hope is that the lower speed limit will “help sustain the flow of traffic.”
