EPE officials say scammers are calling their customers, saying they are a company representative, and threatening to cut off their electricity if the customer doesn't give them a debit card number over the phone to pay their bill.

EPE officials say they do not usually call customers on the phone about their bills, or to tell them their service will be shut down.

They also say you should hang up if you get a call from somebody posing as a company rep, and then call EPE yourself to verify if they're trying to get a hold of you.
