El Paso County is giving couples a place to symbolize their love in February with a “locks of love” display along the lake shore of Ascarate Park.

For the uninitiated, a 'love lock' is a padlock which couples typically write their names or initials on and then latch to a fence or similar public fixture to symbolize their commitment to one another.

Although tradition calls for throwing the key into a nearby body of water, the county prefers the more environmentally conscious gesture of either putting the key in your pocket or disposing it in the designated area.
