El Paso County Parks & Rec Hosting ‘Barks, Books, and Bait’ Kid’s Event at Ascarate Park
Who likes free events?
El Paso County Parks & Recreation has partnered with the county Animal Welfare Department and Ascarate Fishing Club for a morning long event that includes free fishing for kids, free pet microchips, and a free book giveaway all rolled into one.
It's called Barks, Books, and Bait and it's set for Saturday, March 11, at Ascarate Park. Let's break down the event free activity by free activity.
Bait
The Ascarate Fishing Club is hosting the free fishing event for kids ages 3 - 16 from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
And a lack of fishing experience or gear isn't a problem, either. Club members will happily teach kids fishing basics. Fishing poles and bait will be provided for registered children to use during the event.
Just take along a cap, sunscreen, bug spray, water, a camping chair or two, and your driver’s license to check out a pole and you're all set. Registration will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. inside the Ascarate Park Pavilion.
Books
The reading event, in celebration of National Read Across America Day, is from 8 a.m. to noon.
Participants are encouraged to bring their favorite books to read and exchange. Snacks will be provided, there will reading-related activities for the kids, and free books.
Barks
The El Paso County Animal Welfare Department will host the “barks” part of the morning event that will include free microchipping, pet vendors, pet adoptions, and a pop-up dog park so feel free to bring the doggo, too.
