Weekly Concert Update 5/9 -5/15

Every week, this post will be your once stop shop for music happenings in the Sun City. From up and coming indie bands to Latin American superstars, we will detail who they are and when and where they’re showing up in El Paso.

This week, one of the forefathers of alternative music comes to town, along with some local favorites and great dance shows.

Friday

Radio La Chusma – Alfresco Fridays – The popular series of concerts in the Arts Festival Plaza downtown continues  this week with the effortlessly awesome Radio La Chusma. Their mix of Latin and reggae is one of El Paso’s best, and the group always brings in a lively crowd.

Aesthetic Perfection – Lowbrow Palace – Out of LA, this group, headed by electronic musician Daniel Graves, began at the turn of the century. The band blends industrial and dance electronics for a truly unique experience.

Saturday

Moving Units –Tricky Falls – Moving Units loves El Paso, as evidenced by this, their second show here in less than four months. Be sure to check out the great DJ set afterparty as well.

New Young Pony Club – Lowbrow Palace – New new wavers New Young Pony Club play the Lowbrow Palace this weekend. The group hails from London and feature their standout album, Fantastic Playroom.

Tuesday

Morrissey – Plaza Theater – This Charming Man returns to El Paso after a couple of years of cancelled shows and illnesses. The beloved ex-lead singer of seminal alternative/new wave band The Smiths croons his way through his former band’s hits, as well as those from his lauded career as a solo artists.

Wednesday

Adam Hood – The State Line – The State Line Concert Series continues with Adam Hood. A native of Alabama, Hood has been playing for the better part of 15 years, with an Americana flare to his country sound.

Thursday

Ryan Starr – Cool Canyon Nights – Cool Canyon Nights returns to the Sun City this week. The annual concert series, which this week features Ryan Starr, is set every Thursday up in the McKelligon Canyon Amphitheater.

Centennial Night Live – Tricky Falls – This celebration, sponsored by UTEP’s Centennial Time Caspule, features an all local lineup, including Biscuit Roller, L.I.G.R.E., and Tom Laike.
