As coronavirus continues to spread in our community, local leaders took to cyberspace to urge residents to help end – or at least slow -- the health crisis that has upended all of our lives since mid-March.

In a video titled “Message For Our Community,” a masked up Mayor Dee Margo, County Judge Ricardo Samaniego, and the CEO’s of our local hospital groups called on El Pasoans to make “small changes” for the “health and well being of our city.”

“El Paso, our community has arrived at a critical moment in time,” the one-minute-long recording begins. “Our message is urgent and our plea is real,” the clip continues, before asking everyone to wear masks, practice social distancing, wash their hands often, and avoid gathering in large groups.

Message For Our Community

I think we can all agree this whole coronavirus thing needs to end. We all want the restrictions lifted so we can go back to work, back to our loved ones, back to the bro hugs, and the places and activities that brought us joy.

The virus isn’t going to go away just because you think masks tread on your constitutional rights or the pandemic is some overblown political plot by whichever party you don’t support.

The small changes being asked of all of us really are small changes. Just comply with the mandates and recommendations so we can get back to our lives and livelihoods before the holidays are ruined, too.

Aren’t you tired of all this?
