The El Paso Fire Department spent Martin Luther King Jr. Day going door-to-door to install smoke alarms for free as a service to the community. Along with the free fire alarm installation, they also made sure that families knew about fire prevention and fire safety.

Fire death statistics are pretty scary. Every day seven people die in home fires, and something as simple as a fire alarm can help prevent a tragedy in your family.

If you missed the opportunity to get a free smoke alarm installed in your home by the El Paso Fire Department on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, you can still take advantage of the service. The EPFD will install free smoke detectors to anyone who needs them. All you need to do call 311 and make an appointment to have firefighters go to your home and install a free smoke alarm.

You can also go to alarms.elpasofire.org. The Smoke Alarm Program will require you to fill out an application online that you can get by clicking here.

Smoke alarms are a little like car seats. You think you know what you need to ensure the safety of your family and how to install one, but when you see a professional place a smoke alarm and install one properly, you can see just how important it is to have one professionally installed.

There is really no reason to not take advantage of this program. Free is always best, and knowing your fire alarms can be properly installed will give you a lot of peace of mind.
