The city of El Paso is filled with community spaces that go completely overlooked almost every day. Most people don't realize that our city is filled with spaces waiting to give people a chance to try something new, maybe even something they never thought they'd have the opportunity to try. I have talked about the unique and quirky Monteleones Back Alley Hideout Dinner Theater And Steakhouse before, but this El Paso spot offers so much more than a fun time and a delicious meal. Monteleones Dinner Theater is a bigger community resource than most people realize.

Gary Monteleone and his daughter Anna host a dinner theater show every weekend, the kind where you don't just watch the show and eat your food, but where you are actually part of the show! As the murder mystery plays out on stage, you are tasked with being the investigator! Digging for clues, keeping notes of things the actors say or ways they move. Even going as far as having the opportunity to pick up and hold different items left behind by the actors after each scene. This style of murder mystery asks you to be a part of the story, and even rewards you for being a particularly keen detective at the end of the night!

One thing most people gloss over though, is that Gary doesn't just open this show so that audience members can participate, Gary allows the entire community to be a part of the story.

Not only can you buy a ticket and be part of the show, but any member of the El Paso community can audition to be part of the dinner theater. Not just as an actor, but any El Pasoan can even submit their own murder mystery script to be adapted by the Monteleones team!

Not only that, but Monteleones is even teaming up with the Barbed Wire Open Mic Series to create a whole new monthly event for the live theater community! One with local guests from our live theater community in the city that will host workshops as well as offer a space for actors, playwrights, and stage crew of all kind to rehearse and learn together.
