If you have been waiting for the city’s annual Great American Cleanup to get rid of any large or bulky items that do not fit in the blue or gray bin I’m afraid you are going to have to find another way to dispose of them.

The City of El Paso Environmental Services Department, which spearheads the city-wide clean-up project yearly, is suspending the 2021 spring Great American Cleanup “in the interest of promoting social distancing and limiting in-person interactions due to COVID-19,” according to a city press release. “We value these community beautification events and are looking forward to collaborating with all our partners to resuming cleanups as soon as it’s safe to do so,” said City of El Paso Managing Director Ellen Smyth.

Normally there would be numerous cleanup sites throughout El Paso with a roll-off trash dumpster where residents would have been able to dispose of extra trash or large or bulky items such as mattresses, furniture or lawn trash.

Citizen Collections Stations Is One Option Available

Suspension of the event means spring cleaning your garage or de-cluttering your home is going to require you hauling the items yourself to the Greater El Paso Landfill, or one of the Citizen Collection Stations.

There are five CCS locations around town: 4501 Hondo Pass in Northeast, 2492 Harrison (Central), 121 Atlantic on the west side, and 1034 Pendale and 3510 Confederate on the Eastside.
