Austin-Based Center Brings FREE Stuttering Support Camp For Kids to El Paso, TX
A camp focused on helping kids and teens who stutter is coming to El Paso, Texas and the borderland will be home to this first all day camp: CARE for the Borderland.
The Arthur M. Blank Center for Stuttering Education and Research is coming to town, and they're bringing their amazing CARE program to help kids and teens who stutter. And the best part? It's all free!
Parents with kids who stutter are encouraged to take their kids to the FREE camp which will take place on Friday, July 12, 2024 at UTEP’s Health Sciences Building.
The Blank Center, based at The University of Texas at Austin, will be kicking things off on Thursday, July 11, with a morning session (9 am - 12:30 pm) for speech-language pathologists and students. This training dives into the multi-faceted nature of stuttering and the innovative CARE model.
Friday, July 12, is when the real magic happens. From 9 am to 5 pm, kids and teens aged 5-17 will get to join in on a day packed with fun and empowering activities.
The CARE model stands for Communication, Advocacy, Resiliency, and Education, and it's designed to help young people who stutter to speak confidently, communicate effectively, and advocate for themselves.
Caregivers, you're invited too! Join from 4 pm - 5 pm to learn about year-round support and advocacy tips.
Dr. Courtney Byrd, the Founding Executive Director, believes that stuttering shouldn't stop anyone from living life to the fullest. The Blank Center’s approach is all about embracing unique speech patterns and building strong communication skills.
