Congratulations to Cardi B and Offset as they welcomed a healthy baby girl to the world yesterday.

Cardi B and Offset uniquely named their newborn Kulture Kiari Cephus. Yes, Kulture!

Let’s break this down – Cardi B’s real name is Belcalis Marlenis Almanza but she now goes by Belcalis Marlenis Cephus taking Offset’s last name; his real name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus. So the baby’s middle name is Kiari, which is her dad’s name but Kulture as her main name?

I’m all about being different, I should know, my own mother spelled my name with a K, instead of the traditional spelling of Monica, but I can’t quite wrap my head around a name like Kulture.

Kulture is just so weird, the word Kulture spelled with a K means nothing more than really saying Culture, folks don’t know how it’s spelled and it just makes me think about collecting specimens for cultures during a scientific study.

Ultimately it’s none of our business what anyone names their child but I’d wish that parents would take a moment to consider how their child’s name affects them growing up. Both Offset and Cardi B changed their birth names for their careers because I guess Balcalis and Kiari weren’t good enough for the stage and maybe that was their intent – setting up their baby girl with a future stage name.
