If you've ever been to the El Paso Animal Services Shelter, you know that there are a lot of pets looking for forever homes. The shelter is bursting at the seams, so if you are looking to adopt a pet, they have an adoption event coming up this weekend on Friday, May 24, and Saturday, May 25. Adoption fees will be $1, and adoption hours will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on both days.

There is a large kitten population as well as a large dog population that need to be adopted.

If you a pet and can't pay the fees to get Fido or Fluffy back, Animal Services will be waiving impound fees ($60 per dog/cat) and daily handling fees for any animal picked up by their owner. You can take advantage of this through the end of May and the entire month of June. You will have to pay fees for quarantined animals, and for licensing services.

Maybe you don't want to adopt, you just want to help out a pet in need for a little while. You can foster a pet at your home which frees up space for other adoptable pets at the shelter. Pets are fostered out for a minimum of two weeks, but you can foster them longer if you'd like.

If you would like to donate supplies to Animal Services, they need things like:
• Canned puppy and kitten food
• Dry dog and cat food
• Kitten powdered formula
• Towels and blankets (new or gently used)
• Crates and pet carriers

You can drop off donations to the shelter, or purchase and donate items through the shelter's Amazon Wish List at http://bit.ly/ascatwish

Make sure your pets are licensed with updated contact information by going to the Animal Services shelter. The annual license is $12.50. If your pet is already licensed, don't forget to call Animal Services to update your contact information so if your doggo or cat get lost, you can be reunited with them as fast as possible.

You can check out Animal Services online by clicking here, or go to the shelter at 5001 Fred Wilson.
