El Paso Electric will not shut off power for non-payment as coronavirus continues to disrupt El Pasoan’s daily lives.

El Paso City Council made sure of that unanimously approving an emergency ordinance Tuesday (3/18) that contains a measure which prohibits a utility provider from suspending service over delinquent bills while the city emergency declaration is in effect.

Communication posted on the EPE website regarding the matter stated customers will continue to receive billing and overdue bill notifications.

The ordinance also prevents other utilities such as cable, internet, water, gas, and waste removal service from being shut off. It's important to note, once the ordinance has been lifted, protection from disconnection will end. Utility companies, however, are usually willing to work out payment arrangements.
