The El Paso-area has not one, but two state soccer champs. The Bel Air and San Elizario boys soccer teams kicked their way into the history books this past weekend with victories in their respective conference championship games.

Thanks to a game-winning rebound goal from Victor Unzueta in overtime, the San Elizario Eagles defeated Midlothian Heritage on Friday (4/19) to earn the 4A State Championship title for the second year in a row and the third time in the last 5 years.

The following day, the Highlander boys varsity team defeated Wakeland High School to win the school’s first ever 5A State Soccer Championship.

Making the win an even bigger accomplishment was the fact that their opponent was the two-time defending state champions.

Way to go, Eagles! Go Big Red! You da man(s).
