El Paso Health and El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank have teamed up to host the “Better Together” Back to School Drive-Thru which will take place on Saturday, July 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the El Paso County Coliseum.

Before you know it, it will be time for students to resume classes for the 2020-2021 school year and while instruction for the first several weeks will consists of online classes, that doesn’t mean local families can forego gathering school supplies.

Those that attend the “Better Together” Back to School Drive-Thru, will have backpacks for school-age children as well as food provisions for all families placed in their vehicles.  This will allow for social distancing and minimal to no contact between event staff and participants.

If you're wondering if you'll be allowed to leave your home, Governor Abbott announced that there is NOT another state shutdown on the horizon, so go ahead and make those plans to attend.

It can be easy to overlook just how vital good nutrition or even just having access to regular meals can be to a child’s learning environment.  Trying to do anything on an empty stomach can be difficult.  To have young children be expected to learn and retain knowledge while they worry about when their next meal might be is lot to ask.  It’s a major reason why the child nutrition staff at districts all around El Paso never stopped working after the COVID-19 pandemic began necessitating closures.

This collaboration between El Paso Health, the city’s only local non-profit HMO, and El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank will assist with providing two basic needs for area students.  For more information, please call 915-532-3778
