Add the Ysleta Independent School District to the list of schools who have had to update their proposed start of school date as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.  The new start date for YISD is August 17 and all students will begin with three weeks of online instruction.

As of now, parents will be given the option of allowing their children to attend school in person or continue with distance learning.  YISD parents do not have to wait until the school year starts to state their preferred learning method.  If they have not already done so, those families can take a quick three question survey by calling 915-434-0280.

The start of school date was not the only alteration to YISD’s latest calendar.  With the first day of school being pushed back form August 3 to August 17, the last day of instruction for the 2020-2021 school year has also been pushed back to June 11.

Having all students begin with three weeks of online instruction puts YISD in line with the local health order stating that students and staff will not be allowed to physically return to campus until September 8 at the earliest.

As time goes on, it seems like the situation is getting more uncertain due to the still rising coronavirus cases in El Paso and across the state of Texas.  Remember to stay informed and be prepared to be flexible should there be any extensions or the reimplementation of emergency orders within the county or state.
