Water parks can reopen Friday, May 29, under the latest proclamation issued by Gov. Greg Abbott, but Wet N' Wild Waterworld has chosen to wait until next week to do so.

When they do resume operations, it will be with a limited capacity of only 15% of the park's normal operating limits, which is way less than the governor's mandated limit of 25%.

"We have decided to start off with 15% capacity so we can make sure that all of the safety measures we have in place will work successfully before we open the park to a larger number of guests," park representative Emily Polinsky told 93.1 KISS-FM. "We will gradually increase the capacity to reach the full 25% over the coming weeks once we feel we can safely accommodate a larger capacity."

Park-goers will also be expected to adhere to social distancing requirements at every attraction and in the picnic area. Polinsky said they will have staff in place to make sure visitors are keeping their distance as much as possible.

Here's what El Pasoans looking for some relief from the heat and fun in the sun can expect if planning a day trip to Wet N' Wild Waterworld when the park reopens:

• The number of guests allowed will be 15% of the park's normal operating limits
• Social distancing (6 ft.) in all lines, attractions and picnic areas/tables
• Guests expected to wear free waterpark-friendly masks provided with every admission
• Bathrooms cleaned every 15 minutes, and no doors to touch after washing hands
• 20 handwash sinks and 50 new hand sanitizing stations throughout park
• All employees will be required to wear facemasks and undergo daily health screenings before entering the park

As noted above, one of the safety measures in place is the required wearing of face coverings for both workers and visitors. "Wet N’ Wild will require that employees and guests above 4 years old wear a mask when they are not on a water ride," explains Polinsky. "A free water resistant mask will be provided to all guests upon entry. Household group members are allowed to take off their masks in their reserved area if they have rented one, otherwise we will require them to please wear a mask when walking between attractions."

Because the number of people allowed entry daily is severely limited, the park recommends purchasing tickets online and reserving a picnic table in advance to ensure not being turned away at the gate due to the limited capacity.
