Just how heavy was yesterday’s downpour? Severe enough to result in an all too familiar sight around here: flash floods

Check out these videos taken in Central El Paso at Bassett Place by ABC-7 reporter Jerry Najera.

The rain started late Sunday afternoon (August 21), and by 3 p.m. flash flood warnings for East, Central and Northeast El Paso were issued by the National Weather Service.

La Union and Canutillo were also hit with a lot of rain resulting in flooding there as well. Check out this big dark cloud that was seen swirling in Far West El Paso near Canutillo.

Although often mistaken for a tornado or water spout, Mike and Tricia Mornings and ABC-7 Storm Tracker Nichole Gomez says it was actually a Scud Cloud, which, as she explained, forms as warmer air from a thunderstorm lifts warm air near the surface.
