Vicente Fernández, aka "Chente," is a now-retired musician and actor whose music catalog and multiple accolades have led him to become one of Mexico's most influential cultural icons.

Fernández, whose health has been ailing for the last few years, fell at his home ranch over the weekend in Guadalajara and was hospitalized after injuring his cervical spine requiring neck surgery. He is now in ICU in critical but stable condition.

Now Borderland fans are sending El Rey de la Música Ranchera (The King of Ranchera Music), love, and prayers for a speedy recovery taking to Facebook saying:

Only a handful of Mexican artists have defined and influenced our Mexican culture, such as Pedro Infante, Javier Solis, Juan Gabriel, including Vicente Fernández.

For decades Vicente Fernández has inspired and moved fans with songs like El Rey, De Qué Manera Te Olvido, Volver Volver, and Por Tu Maldito Amor (produced by Selena's older brother, A.B. Quintanilla - the King of Kumbias).

However, due to his deteriorating health, El Ídolo de México (The Idol of Mexico) retired from performing live in 2016 but continued writing and recording music as of late.

The three-time Grammy winner has sold over 50 million copies worldwide throughout his career, making him one of the best-selling regional Mexican artists of all time and one of Mexico's most beloved artists.
