Guns and education will be walking hand-in-hand soon at UTEP. Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed a bill that gives people the right to carry concealed guns on university campuses earlier this summer.

UTEP officials now have to come up with a policy for the campus to deal with the new law. UTEP President Diana Natalicio says she wants the input of people it will affect, so UTEP is working on getting a task force in place and possibly a survey of students and parents as they work to put a policy in place.

The policy has to be submitted to the Texas Board of Regents before January of next year. After the policy proposal is submitted, it won’t take effect until fall 2016.
