Utah Father Said Hospital Charged Him to Hold Newborn Child

A new father went on Reddit to explain that in looking at the hospital bill, the facility charged the new family around $40 just to hold their freshly, newborn child. He also posted a picture of the bill on Imgur:

A FOX News affiliate verified the charge with the Utah Valley Hospital in Provo, which described the $39.35 charge as "Skin to Skin" contact after the Caesarean section on the bill.

“The nurse let me hold the baby on my wife's neck/chest,” he wrote on the website. “Even borrowed my camera to take a few pictures for us. Everyone involved in the process was great, and we had a positive experience. We just got a chuckle out of seeing that on the bill.” -- Ryan Grassley, father

The father then started a GoFundMe page to help "raise" the $40. (The goal was reached this morning.)

To be clear I wasn't complaining or trying to send people on a witch hunt for the hospital.  We had a very positive experience during the birth of our son, and the hospital and staff were great throughout the entire process ... Any money donated over the $39.35 will be put towards a vasectomy because I never want to go though these sleepless new baby nights again. -- GoFundMe page.

The hospital explained the charge as going to pay one of the nurses in the delivery room. While the main nurse is occupied by caring for the mom or dealing with surgery concerns, a second nurse is required to care for the baby. Thus, the charge was to pay the extra nurse to be in the operating room.
