Two El Paso-area Cities Make 2023 List of 50 Safest in Texas
You’ve probably heard it mentioned or seen a published report touting El Paso as one of the safest large cities in America. Studies conducted by various companies doing deep dives into crime stats consistently list El Paso among the safest cities year after year.
As it turns out, not only do we live in a safe city, we have some equally safe neighboring municipalities.
Small Towns, Safe Cities
An online safety and security advice company compiled its annual safest cities report and two El Paso-area cities were among Texas’ 50 Safest Cities of 2023.
According to data compiled by SafeWise, the City of San Elizario and the Town of Horizon City on the east end of El Paso County are pretty safe places to call home.
Horizon City, which has been growing by leaps and bounds thanks in part to the rapid development of neighboring Eastlake, made the grade at #31. San Elizario ranked higher at #8.
The rankings were based in part on crime data disseminated from the most recent FBI crime statistics.
San Elizario’s Top 10 placing was due in part to it having a fairly low property crime and violent crime rate for a city its size.
San Elizario – or, San Eli as we affectionately call it around here - was recently voted the Best Historic Small Town in America for 2023 in a USA TODAY Readers' Choice poll. Established more than 400 years ago, it is one of the oldest towns in the United States.
