You’ve probably heard it mentioned or seen a published report touting El Paso as one of the safest large cities in America. Studies conducted by various companies doing deep dives into crime stats consistently list El Paso among the safest cities year after year.

Not only do we live in very safe city for its size, we’re surrounded by equally safe municipalities.

The SafeWise team recently compiled its annual safest cities report and San Elizario, Horizon City, and Socorro were among the 50 Safest Cities in Texas for 2020. San Eli ranked the highest at #3. Horizon City just missed the top 10, grabbing the #12 slot and Socorro made the grade at #31.

The rankings by SafeWise, an online home security and safety advice company, were based on crime data disseminated from the most recent FBI crime statistics.

San Elizario’s first ever Top 3 placing was due in part to it having the lowest property crime rate in the state at 3.1 per 1,000 people. San Eli also came in well below state and national violent crime rates, as did Horizon City and Socorro.

This past June, business insurance resource company AdvisorSmith ranked El Paso #5 on its “Safest Cities in America” list. The rankings were based on a crime score determined by researching violent and property crime rates of the largest metropolitan areas in the U.S. also using data culled from the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting program.

El Paso averaged 3.7 violent crimes per 1,000 people, and 15.1 property crimes per 1,000 for a crime score of 49.1.
