Should Teens Still Trick-or-Treat? This New Jersey Town Says NO!

Halloween in El Paso, TX is only a few days and soon the streets will be filled with ghosts, super heroes, princesses and more!

My 14-year-old son and I usually go trick-or-treating every year with his cousins, but this year I thought I would ask him if he had other plans.

As a momma to a teenage boy, I understand that he’s a growing teen so this is the age where they like to hang out with their friends on Halloween. His response was:

“I’ll go trick-or-treat with my friends since it will be the last time we can.”

Last time?! Does he know something I don’t?! And then I thought, wait- is there an age limit for trick-or-treating?!

The age-old debate is back: Should there be a cutoff for trick-or-treating?

Apparently in some places the answer is, yes. Their reasoning? Trick-or-treating is for the little ones, and if you’re a chaperoning teen, you’re in the “no candy” lane.

But what do most Americans think?

A recent survey asked over 5,000 people when it’s time to hang up the costume. The answer: somewhere in the teenage years.

These New Jersey Towns Don’t Think Teens Should Trick-or-Treat!

Upper Deerfield Township in New Jersey, for example, recently set an age limit of 12, while nearby Pennsauken has banned anyone over 14 from hitting the candy circuit.

For towns like Upper Deerfield, these rules are more “friendly guidelines” than strict bans.

So, if you’re a teen who’s just not ready to retire your pillowcase, there might be room for one more trick-or-treat experience.
