El Paso, get ready because Football season is almost here, and in Texas, that means more than Friday night lights! It also means homecoming season and, of course, homecoming mums!

I have some fun memories of my high school years and how we celebrated homecoming with elaborate mums and garters covered in ribbons, bells, trinkets, flowers, school colors and plenty of sparkle. Sometimes the mums were bigger than our bodies, but the bigger the better!!

For many families, part of the tradition is making the mum themselves, and that usually means a trip to one of the major craft stores to stock up on supplies, but this year, some El Paso shoppers are walking into Hobby Lobby expecting to find an entire section dedicated to homecoming mum supplies only to discover it is gone!! *Gasps in Spanish*

Hobby Lobby reportedly discontinues homecoming mum and garter supply line

Yup. You read that right. According to reports from homecoming-mum suppliers and craft communities, the retailer's primary supplier retired, leaving Hobby Lobby to sell through its remaining inventory rather than restock the department or find a new supplier.

That means shoppers who have relied on Hobby Lobby for everything from ribbons and backings to bells, charms and other decorations will have to find another source this homecoming season.

So, Where Can El Pasoans Get Mum Supplies?

The good news is that the Texas homecoming-mum industry isn't going anywhere. There are still specialty suppliers that cater specifically to the tradition.

And for those who don't necessarily need dedicated mum products, crafters can still check other major retailers like Walmart, Michael’s and other local spots that may pick up the slack now that Hobby Lobby has exited the Homecoming mum chat!

So, while Hobby Lobby may no longer be the one-stop shop it once was for homecoming mums, the tradition itself is very much alive.
