The COVID-19 pandemic really messed everything up last year. No concerts, no new movies or television series, everyone stayed home and bought up all the workout equipment they could find on Amazon, and so much bread baking. Of course there was no sports either because the sports world turned the lights off in all the stadiums and arenas all over the country.

There was a possibility For a while, it looked like we were going to get a Sun Bowl game at the end of the year. Teams were trying to do bubbles with their players and coaches but that didn't work and we didn't have our annual bowl game but this year, that is all changing. Officials with the 2021 Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl game announced Thursday afternoon that the 87th annual game is scheduled to kickoff on Friday, December 31 at 10:30 a.m.

If you're planning on going to the game, here are a few things you should do before you go:

1. Get your tickets early - The Sun Bowl usually sells out because it is the biggest party of the year. El Pasoans don't go to the Sun Bowl to watch the game, we go because it's a big social event. This year, it's going to be even bigger. We have been cooped up for over a year and we'll be ready to party with friends and relatives so as soon as those tickets go on sale you should snap them up.

2. Get a stadium seat - Whether you buy one at a sporting goods store or rent one at the stadium, get one. Those metal bleachers are hell on your butt and during the winter they cold as hell, too.

3. Get a UTEP blanket - Years ago I took my granddaughters to a game and they were freezing. I went to the stadium store and the only thing they had that the girls could use was blankets. They were $70 a piece but I bought 3 and they were worth every penny. Not only did the girls stay warm at the game but they are their favorite blankets and tell me what a great Seti (Arabic for grandmother) I am for buying them. A win-win!
