A Texas sheriff deputy was killed after he crashed into the back of a semi-trailer. The 27-year-old Harris County sheriff’s deputy, Robert Adam Howard, was traveling down hwy 249 in Houston.

The deputy was in his patrol vehicle when he clipped the back of an 18-wheeler; the semi-truck was parked on the shoulder of the highway.

THE HEARTBREAKING ACCIDENT

Howard was a part of the vital gang unit and was getting on his way to begin an operation when he crashed. As he was traveling down 249., his patrol car, according to Lt. Simon Cheng, "veered slightly into the inside should, and unfortunately the driver's side of our police Tahoe impacted the rear side of the trailer."

The patrol car bounced into another lane and struck another car. The driver of the stationary 18-wheeler was just taking a little break, and officials say there doesn't appear to be any fault on him.

The damage to the patrol vehicle was catastrophic. "The top of the vehicle was sheered off that exposed the deputy to further injuries." Lt. Simon Cheng told reporters at the scene.

His father, Robert Howard described his son as a great kid, "I just at a loss for words right now, we are very distraught." Howard was a devoted father with a 2 and 5-year-old.
