If Father’s Day weekend is going to be the pits then it may as well be cherry pits.

Nichols Ranch and Orchards in La Luz, New Mexico is hosting the 2023 Nichols Ranch Cherry Festival over the Father’s Day weekend, so if you’re feeling the need to get out of town for a fun day trip with the family consider taking a road trip to the orchards just outside Alamogordo for the 4th Annual Cherry Festival, Saturday and Sunday, June 17-18.

The festival is all about celebrating the annual cherry crop, so, naturally, it’s all things cherry: cherry pie, cherry cider, cherry jams, and baskets and baskets of just-picked cherries.

Listen to live music, spend some time in the beer and wine garden, have lunch at one of the food booths or food trucks, and peruse the wares of arts and crafts vendors while celebrating the more than 100-year history of red, ripe, and ready to pick cherries grown in the Sacramento Mountains.

There will be activities to keep the kids entertained, too, like the Runyan Ranch Petting Zoo, and train rides.
