The first group of unaccompanied minors made their way into Holloman Air Force Base today in Alamogordo, New Mexico. They are the first group of about 700 children out of different parts of Central America that will be housed at the base.

The group of children come primarily from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador. They have been placed in groups of 8 so that every adult is responsible for 8 children. They are on a strict schedule for the next month and are being taken care of by the Department of Health and Human Services.

There will be a total of 700 children temporarily housed at Holloman and they will be staying in a vacant building on base. The feedback from the community has been mostly positive and supportive towards the refugee children and the Department of Health and Human Services is currently hiring more employees to help with the surge of children to come in.
