The Plaza Classic Film Festival honors former industry colleagues that passed away in the last year.

The Plaza Classic Film Festival kicked off their two-week run last night (Thursday, August 2nd) in downtown El Paso and took a moment to honor some of the wonderful people that had been part of the festival in years past who had passed away on the last year.

The honor included animator Vicky Gibson, local actor Anthony Escobar, two organists that volunteered their talents performing at the film festival each year including Jack Stewart and Don Storey. They also honored Michael Charske, a location manager that worked on many Hollywood movies such as Glory Road and Man on Fire. One last mention included Jennifer Riordan, the former VP of Community Relations at Wells Fargo who was killed after a Southwest Airlines jet engine failed midair and its debris blew up a window.

The evening also included a moment to award Susie Gaines, the El Paso Film Commission Director who recently announced her retirement. She was presented with the Plaza Classic Film Festival Lifetime Achievement Award.
