The Christmas break started the day before Christmas Eve for students and families in the El Paso Independent School District, and a lot of parents are upset about the district's timing.

Parents told KTSM that they had to reschedule trips and family gatherings because of the late Christmas holiday break. EPISD had the latest start to the Christmas break compared to other school districts in El Paso County.

Last year's EPISD Christmas break began about a week before Christmas. Parents and school staff voted for this year's calendar and the start date of the Christmas holiday break. EPISD officials say starting the Christmas break when they did helps the district "balance out the semesters."

Parents said they were stressed out about travel for the holidays and some even said teachers paid a price as well because they weren't able to get things taken care of for the holidays because they worked up until the 23rd.
